I also recommend people try Lucid. The 10.04 release candidate came
out tonight. Don't use this in production, but try it out, if Ubuntu is
your style. This has been a very smooth release cycle. The button
placement change is strange, but easily fixed. grub2 was introduced in
9.10, so it really is not new. I encountered my first real problem
earlier today. There are some problems with java and and they affect
you if you are doing something like android development with eclipse. I
expect them to get worked out reasonably soon. Reading bug reports in
Launchpad was kind of funny. There were people complaining that the
product could not be released in this state, i.e. without a fully
working Sun Java. They needed it for production and seemed to not
understand that 10.04 is not ready for production yet.
The thing I notice most is how much faster it boots and shuts down.
There are a number of other little refinements. What do others here
think about it?
