That's the question exactly - "OS is irrelevant" or not?  But actually I 
wasn't even thinking OS so much as software.  At the moment, I am 
leaning toward device specific, but without specific documentation, or 
unlimited funds, I wasn't sure how I could prove that.  Thank you for 
your suggestion - it is worth a shot, and so I have entered an email 
request.
