Fred,
  It depends on what kind of editing you need.  If it is basic stuff,
like taking clips from a longer video, or cutting out commercials, then
Piviti does a pretty good job.  It does not have much in the way of
transition effects, but it does what I need.
 It take a little playing with to understand, but not that much and then
it is pretty obvious.
