OT resolved ... sort of ... it seems that there is more latitude in
copying and editing the mpeg formats than there might be for the DV
(AVI) formats in Kdenlive, and I have found a result that satisfies my
needs by doing that. The original camera output is 320x240 and Kdenlive
(for avi) wants to make that 720x480 or (for mpeg) 320x200, neither of
which match the original proportions all that closely. But adding a
custom output format that is a copy of one of the mpeg formats, and
changing the ratio to match the original ... Bingo! Don't know why that
wouldn't work for avi, but I have what I want ... smaller files,
original ratio, commonly accepted format ... Thanks
