Did all of that ... no good ... but I may have been off track ... taking
a close look at the html, what seems to be happening is it is
interpreting é as è and à as "double dagger" (the

the two instances of "é" each come out in OOo as E with a
grave accent instead of e with an acute accent
the instance of "à" comes out as the "double dagger"
