[NTLUG:Discuss] Advice for VPN services of Ubuntu

I find myself having to travel and use unsecured WiFi.  I would like
to keep my surfing private (nothing illegal).   I will not have access
to a PC at home since this travel is associated with moving my home.
So, I'm hoping there is an easily configured VPN service.  Free would
be nice but recognizing that might not happen then a low-cost per
month service is OK.  I have Googled "VPN service for Ubuntu" but see
that Linux and Ubuntu solutions seem to be an afterthought to services
aimed at Windoze users.  Please advise keeping in mind that while I
have used Ubuntu for some time I don't do well if the setup involves
scripting.
