I downloaded
    Free
    ONE Gnome
    ONE KDE4
all succeeded in write/verify except ONE Gnome ... ONE Gnome finally did 
write/verify (on try number 8) ... however ...
    ONE Gnome won't boot ... "Stopping boot logger      failed" or 
"Stopping boot loggern:ems    failed"
    ONE KDE4 will boot but won't start GUI ... doesn't seem to like the 
video card? (Mandriva 2008.0 is running on it?)
    Free ... haven't tried it, as I am not ready to install something I 
am not fairly sure I will like.

History:
I had down loaded Mageia 1 Live (both KDE4 and Gnome), plus the full 
install iso ... had been testing the Live versions and wanted to compare 
to Mandriva ... sigh ... so far it doesn't look possible.

Possible future action ... try downloading Mandriva stuff again from a 
different mirror?  Might try that.  Might try some other distro instead, 
or as well.
