Could you give a bit more detail on what versions of KDE you
both are running, and perhaps the operating system distro for 
each?  The name "KDE4" isn't all that specific.   

For example, I'm currently running KDE 4.8.5; just two years ago I 
was on KDE 4.3, and there are some very substantial differences 
between the two.
