Correction(s):
I said initially that rasbian used OpenBox by default, (which is true),
but what I failed to realize was that I was booting LXDE. I realized that,
(purely by accident); I logged out and saw that there is the option to
boot [only to] OpenBox, and I did, (which is what I should have been doing
all along because I do not need a "Desktop Environment"). So, I logged out
and back in to an OpenBox session and now it defaults to just booting up to
OpenBox.
So here is the deal; If you boot the GUI by default it boots up LXDE,
[which is a Desktop Environment that runs on top of the Window Manager,
"OpenBox"]. LXDE has a desktop background with icons and menu bar at
bottom with a start menu to start any applications we have installed. If
you don't need it, just log out and back into OpenBox and it will become
default. OpenBox has no desktop background, no menu bar or icons, (you
just right click for men items).
Although LXDE is a very lightweight Desktop Environment, it still uses
*some* system resources, I don't need it, I won't be using it any longer.
Another reason to not use it is that I am really not wanting to show a
desktop background and all that stuff when restarting the slideshow, and
things will happen a *little* quicker.
Autostart for OpenBox is done from one single file,
~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh
You just place commands in the autostart.sh file one to a line like so:
xset s noexpose
geeqie -f -s /home/pi/Pictures
I've also noticed that with the newer version of rasbian,
(2013-09-25<http://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspbian_latest>),
~/bin is no longer in the path. I don't know why they changed that, but
....
I'm doing a Raspberry Pi presentation this Saturday at the FWLUG meeting
(at the VFW Post 8235 on White Settlement Road). Meeting time is 10AM,
anyone interested in the Raspberry Pi project is welcome to attend, (well,
for that matter, anyone interested in Linux/OpenSource is welcome to
attend, so...) (Please sign the book as guest when you come in), help
yourself to coffee. (Breakfast is served from 8AM to 10AM, some of us come
early for the breakfast, it's really good and very reasonable, coffee is
free).
Address is 5333 White Settlement Rd, Fort Worth, Tx.
