Leroy,
  I have used both.  I used Evolution the longest.  I stopped because
of several reasons.
 1. It seemed that support was about to end
 2. It was becoming unstable in later releases.  I was often getting
lockups.  Others got them, too, but there were no signs of fixes on
the horizon.
 3 There seemed to be a lot more development going on in Thunderbird,
particularly in some security add ons.

 Thunderbird had its own problems.  It looked like support for it was
also going away and the promising plug ins never really did anything
useful for me.  Oh, the PGP plugin worked OK, but I was looking for
more than that.  Now recently, it seems like Mozilla is stepping up
Thunderbird support, so I'd probably pick it, of these two now.

 Evolution has a better license.
