The last time I looked at Evolution was about 2002, so keep that in
mind.
Thunderbird is a fairly ordinary email client. My finding is it's
bloated and slow, especially when messages are kept on an IMAP server,
but it's straightforward.
I found Evolution to be unfathomable. It didn't seem an email client,
but instead this big-iron program that, if I looked in just the right
place, I could see my email. IIRC it was bloated and slowed the whole
computer, but I could be confusing it with Nautilus as far as bloat and
slowness.
I use Claws-Mail for performance reasons, and the fact that I don't
need access to HTML email. I have a buddy who uses Thunderbird, and he
says he sees none of the slowness I see in Thunderbird. IMHO, if you
can get adequate performance out of Thunderbird, it's a nice email
client. I wouldn't touch Evolution with a ten foot pole.
