You're not going to have this thing connected, directly or indirectly,
to the Internet, are you? This OS is missing almost two decades of
security updates.

Are you an employee, or are these people your customers? If the latter,
I'd bail on the whole project. Someone not willing to pay $10 to $100
for a Linux distribution will have a negative reaction to paying *you*
for all the extra work you do working around their cheapness.
