RE: "write fantastic scripts"
What are people using for "fantastic scripts" these days?
The assumption is that "fantastic" means something more durable and
sophisticated than Bourne or Bash quick fixes.

The last interesting thing I looked at was "HipHop for PHP" which was
brilliant but is now defunct.
Replaced by " HipHop Virtual Machine
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HipHop_Virtual_Machine> (HHVM), which is a
just-in-time <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just-in-time_compilation> (JIT)
compilation-based execution engine for PHP".
Hardware is so fast and so inexpensive this now works.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around "Parrot virtual machine". Is it
viable for scripting or not?
