In RedHat 6.1, the /dev/cuaxx may not be working at all. see if you can
tell minicom to do /dev/ttySx, where X= 0 through 3 for com1 through com4.
If that does not work, are you a dual boot system? If so, boot into
windows and see if something have fubar'd your pcmcia modem. It could be
that a plunge and pray (Plug and Play) device has stolen the IRQ from your
modem.
