The second most important reason (for me) is that with DSL, you have your
own connection right back to the ISP, with cable, everyone else in your
neighbourhood is on the same chunk of cable.

Hence, at "peak hours" you and your neighbours are competing over a limited
resource.  With DSL, you should have the same amount of uasable bandwidth
24/7.

For me personally though, the number one reason is that my home is 300 feet
from the nearest road and from the end of my driveway, it's another 200 feet
to the pole with the cable tap on it.  500 feet is more than the maximum
distance that the local cable TV company will support.

I suggested that I could put up a garden shed up near the street with a
PC in it and they could deliver service there...but they were unimpressed.
