After your dialup connection is established, what does

$cat /etc/resolv.conf

show?

Does the following command work (i.e. return the IPs for CNN's website)

$dig www.cnn.com

If not, does

$dig www.cnn.com @64.247.218.140

(the 64 address is an OpenNIC server I know allows outside queries)
