[NTLUG:Discuss] no /dev/lp0 ???

Hey folks, I'm trying to get my HP LaserJet 4L set up on a RedHAt 7.1 (non
factory kernel) installation.
/dev/lp0 doesn't exist according to the error messages below.... I built
another
kernel using 2.4.18 src and enabled all the printer and parport modules I
could find...
but I still can't do get the /dev/lp0 working. I'm not sure what to look
for at this point.
...maybe IRQ or I/O settings? ...how do I check/change this?
I'm not much of a hardware guru so advice with specific instructions would
be nice.

thanks in advance,
  Jeremy
