I been running two NICs on Intel boxes under various
versions of Linux including RH and BSD for some time
now and I can't say I have ever had the problems you
experienced with OSs from Redmond. I should add that
if you want to avoid the confusion of what NIC is
which you can use two different brands of as well.
And by the way, I have tried those other OSs from the
Northwest and I found they aren't very stable or
easier to configure for use as a router. I would also
recommend you try 3Com or sohoware 10/100 (tulip
driver) cards and switches.
Cheers,
Bryn
