Just an FYI to the group: I solved my dilemma and now have a working laptop with wireless connectivity! Hold the applause <wink>
In case anyone is interested in how I did it, I must confess that I didn't do it with Mandrake 9.0 as I had hoped to. I used Red Hat 8.0. I then followed the instructions provided by the crank himself (http://linux.oldcrank.com/tips/wpc11/) and viola!, my Internet she is appearing on my laptop.
There is a side effect of using Red Hat (it seems I always have to trade one problem for another): after playing a music CD, a tapping sound keeps playing -- almost like an endless loop. Can anyone tell me how to change my sound card options? I can't seem to figure it out in Red Hat 8.0.
Thanks to all on this list that helped me try to solve this issue.
Frank

Subject: LinkSys WPC11 wireless card install help
Hi guys.
I need some help installing my Linksys WPC11 wireless card onto my HP zt1180 laptop.
I have installed, via RPM, the following packages:
kernel-wlan-ng ---- version 0.1.15-6
kernel-wlan-ng-modules-rh80.24 ---- version 0.1.15-6
kernel-wlan-ng-pcmcia ---- version 0.1.15-6
Nothing happens. There isn't even a light on the PCMCIA adapter! Keep in mind that this adapter has worked flawlessly under Win2k and WinXP so I am pretty sure that the adapter is not malfunctioning.
I've run "/sbin/lsmod" but there is no pcmcia adapter nor pcmcia service listed.
Whenever I try to "/sbin/cardctrl/ident" the following message is returned: "no pcmcia driver in /proc/devices"
I think the problem is that my PCMCIA card/slot is not being recognized. I think the drivers/software is set up correctly. I have read lots of install info on the 'NET and they always talk of removing and re-inserting the PCMCIA card and hearing beeps. I never hear any beeps.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks,
Frank
