[NTLUG:Discuss] terminfo question

Howdy, all,

I've always been unclear what applications termcap affects, and what
applications terminfo affects in Linux, and I have a problem I'd like to
address.

My last few Linux installations have been RH 8, and on both SVGA and
laptop displays the colored dashes in man pages aren't visible in X.

Curiously, it doesn't seem to matter what value I export for $TERM.

Clues gratefully accepted here! (I already tried Google... :-)
