Not sure which kernel options RH supports, but I'd try disableapic
(if they support that one).

Specifically if this is a Athlon board, you might need mem=nopentium
if you have an AGP graphics card (this problem I think is fixed in
2.4.20 or in future 2.4.21).

I don't thing RH does acpi, but if it does, you can try disabling
that as well (probably acpi=off).
