OK, I've found the source of the problem, but haven't a clue what to
do about it. It's the onboard raid controller on the latest
motherboard. It is a High Point HPT372. When I went into the bios and
disabled the onboard RAID I was able to boot and install.

I'd really like to use the hardware raid, but I would give that up if
I can just use the controller without the raid. But even if I have the
RAID disabled (it just presents the 2 drives), the machine panics.

Any ideas?
