Jeez!  (banging head on desk!!!!)  I took the Linksys card out of the
Smoothwall box took one I knew worked out of one of my other computers,
reinstalled the 2.0b6 version and now it works.  So apparently it was
the NIC card freaking out, not the firewall...or it was the card
freaking out the firewall.

I'm sending this email through the firewall right now, so that's cool. 
Thanks for all the input guys.  I just spent 2 frustrating days and you
were a big help.  The bad thing is, I took that NIC card out of a static
bag and it DID work when I put it in there.  I guess I should toss it
now to prevent future confusion and frustration.  I might put it in the
computer I took the working one out of to see if Windows likes it any
better...on second thought...I don't want to pull any more hair out!
