[NTLUG:Discuss] VMWare alt. for running JumpStart and Photoshop

I have considered VMWare's excellent product many times. I continue
to sit on the fence because 1) it's $300 and 2) I haven't had the time
to look at cheap alternatives that might meet my needs. I postponed
looking until I have Mandrake 9.2 (in the mail soon).

There are very few M$ products that cause me to hold onto an M$
box. Still and Motion pic manipulation as I occasionally need to do a
composite of 2-4 shots. Try getting a family of six all looking at the
camera, not blinking, and reasonably nice expression (kids ages 10,
9, 2, and 2). The other is educational software such as JumpStart
and MathBlaster series.

If you tried to use alternatives to VMWare to run JumpStart and/or
picture software (gimp is good but not good enough) - I'd like to 
hear about it.
