For the eMachines amd64 laptops, the integrated wlan doesnt work with any
distro out of the box. The 32bit windows drivers work with whatever that
driver translation layer is for linux under a 32bit distro, but no luck
under a 64bit.

I have had great success with this laptop after replacing the included
mini-pci wlan card with a prism54 based one.
Also of note, debian based distros for amd64 are pure 64bit, this means no
32bit application compatability, no flash plugin, etc. They seem to be the
only ones taking this route, and mainly because of critical flaws with apt
and multilib.
