Simply added a bit more clarity, you implied it did not work today, and
it does, I was careful to specify the difference in the cost.

If you want to add it to any application that understands Mpeg 2 or 4 or
MJPEG it's trivial. If the app understands V4L2 it's even more trivial
since the drivers are written in that format. If the app expects raw
video frames it's not going to work with out lots of work decoding the
encoded frames.

I not saying better, I said it's also available now. I took your comment
to imply that it does not work with Linux today which is not true.

I use it in an industrial security dvr application for school buses and
it's also being looked at by police and public safety applications.
Biggest issues are attempting to use it with a VIA MB. The VIA boards
suck in terms of USB chipset support and PCI interupts.

To get it to work correctly with a VIA board I had to add an external
USB 2.0 card that was not a via chipset. Then all worked as expected. If
you are using an Intel or Athlon based system that does not use VIA USB
chips all should be well.

Using the Mpeg 4 I can stream the video when desired.

Cheers,

David
