I prefer KDE or XFCE. Both come with Slackware. I like the light weight of 
XFCE, and the applications that are by default included in kde. To change 
between windows managers I exit the GUI and run xwmconfig. The next time i 
log into the windows manager I am using the one selected by xwmconfig. What 
I am doing also is a factor as to which one i choose sometimes. 

Also, Ubuntu is a nice setup using Gnome.

I agree with Chris I would use the default window manager for the Linux 
distribution you use.
