Gilbert, Alan and all who offered suggestions and resource I thank you.
I am convinced we all choose our ultimate linux vehicle for varied and diverse reasons.. Therein lies the appeal fpr linux user, its multiple choices, appearances etc.
As much as I dislike MS and its outreach I would be the first to admit MS introduced me to electronic age and I got use to how windows looks.
That being said Kubuntu is so similar to the windows look I feel at home.
I hope this does not turn into a war on which is best

On the screen where one logs in (after reboot and install) you should have
an options button - click it and select KDE or gnome then select it as the
default.
