Brian -

I'm not sure how not knowing the internal construct of a gif file would
prevent the setting up of a buy button.

Try looking at http://www.godscritters.org

It is one I hacked from a free template and it works quite well. Comparing
its quality to a well-designed, professionally done site reminds me of an
outing at the range once when I was getting a 2" group out of my old
.45 and a guy offered me his new Ruger to try. It grouped about 1". An
old ex-marine watched it all, snorted and said, "Either one would get the job 
done."

As for my technical skills, or lack thereof... I get by, somehow. Maybe what
drives me is the satisfaction I get from making something work in spite of
others' doubts about my ability.
