The best solution I've found on linux are external ethernet -> wireless devices like

Which provide "wireless bridge" and "access client" functionality (google those). The issue with wireless cards that go into towers is the antenna is buried in the 'nest' of wires behind your case, most likely forcing you to raise the case to a high point to get adequate signal over any kind of distance. You can do something similar with a USB device and USB extension chord, but I run into issues because some of the USB extensions around my place predate USB2.0 and I get failures that are hard to track down. Sticking with a standalone solution that has http setup prevents dealing with the driver and improves your ability to dial in signal quality. Since you already have a wired net, this seems like the closest to a plug in solution since a single 'bridge' will support a host of devices on the ethernet link it provides.
Hopefully someone can chip in with a device still being sold. You are likely find something in xbox 360 connectivity sections of gaming sites.
