Ralph likely will have some insight on this as he is working on something similar I think. 

I took a slightly different approach and use the following to setup my RPIs at work to boot and open a full-screen browser to a web page:

Right now I'm just pointing them to zenoss report pages but am experimenting with www.geckoboard.com to setup scrolling dashboards that the RPIs boot to. Then I don't have to connect to the RPIs to change what is shown but instead just change the content from the website.
