No grub menu even?  If so, I'd recommend adding nomodeset to your kernel boot line.

Sounds like you don't even get that though.... not sure.  Going to guess that 
maybe it attempted an efi boot install and things didn't go quite right (?).

Are there more primitive options at install time that you could try?
